"Foundations of Addictions Counseling" is a wonderful example of a paper on addiction. This week’ s reading has been of great importance to my life as a student and a person concerned about social issues. From the reading, I have realized that drug addiction and substance abuse is a more serious problem than people take it. I have also learned that the problem can have a remedy if handled professionally (David, & Mark, 2008). Being a chemical-dependency counselor, the reading's information will be very useful. Firstly, the reading has made me realize that I have responsibilities towards the society that I must strive to achieve and this has improved my performance (Blocher, 2008).
Secondly, I have realized that as a professional counselor I am bound by ethical concerns that I have to observe throughout my practice. The reading has also enabled me to identify important organizations and institutions that offer support to counseling. This week’ s reading has been very insightful. The reading has proved that although drug and substance abuse has no cure, it has a realistic remedy (McCollum & Treppe, 2001).
From the reading, it is evident that numerous projects and activities are currently being conducted by various agencies to fix the problem. The reading has given me hope for the possibility of eliminating the problem of drug and substance abuse. From the class discussion, I have learned important lessons that have influenced my thinking and attitude concerning drug problems. Before the class discussion, I had viewed the drug problem as a problem without a solution, however following the discussion I have realized that success in solving the problem depends on strategies applied.
