"The 6 Cs of Caring" is a decent example of a paper on care. The 6 Cs of nursing practice underpin the values and behaviours that practitioners should demonstrate as they do their duties. Nurses should be involved in championing the 6 Cs by providing the link between the strategy and everyday practices. According to Dossey and Keegan (2012), the 6 Cs encompass the enduring values of compassion practice which include care, competence, compassion, courage, communication and commitment. Each of these values is supposed to be integrated into everyday practice so that service users get the most effective care from health care facilities that they visit. The first component of compassion in practice approach is care.

This value entails offering individual service users the best services which will help them improve their health. It also involves playing an active role in the wellbeing of the community at large by offering services that meet their needs. In actual practice, care should be the core of the services which are delivered to patients. Organizations need to make it the most critical part of their operations.

Dossey and Keegan (2012) inform that nurses can demonstrate and incorporate this component in the actual practice by ensuring that they give health care services which are right for the patients throughout all the stages of life.   Compassion on the other hand refers to how the care is given to the patients.   In practice, nurses need to develop a good relationship with the patients so that the services offered do not only enhance the wellbeing of the patients but also does so in a dignified, empathetic and a respectful manner. The third component is competence which relates to the ability of the caregiver to deal with the needs of the service users.

In practice, it is the duty of the nurse to understand the health, social, cultural and economic needs of the service users. Nurses should therefore rely on research and evidence as a way of ensuring competence in practice.   Communication is the fourth aspect of the 6 Cs approach. Communication amongst the staff and patients is central in care delivery. This implies that nurses are required to ensure that they make communication a central concern when they are working with patients and as a team.

It allows them to understand the needs of the patient better so that the best decisions are made. The fifth component is courage. Dossey and Keegan (2012), state that this aspect of compassion practice allows the service providers to always do what is required of them. By demonstrating courage in practice, nurses will be able to speak out and speak up for the patients and for themselves when they notice anything which concerns their personal strengths (Baillie & Black, 2014).

In addition, it allows for the adoption of an innovative way of practice. Commitment is the final value in the 6 Cs and it should always be the cornerstone of whatever activity that nurse engage in. Nurses must always be committed to improving care and the experience of the service users so that the outcomes of the services and inventions can improve the wellbeing of the patients.
