It is in this interest that the Australian Government is doing everything possible to implement programmes that would help people to deal with the problems coming from diabetes mellitus 2 (AIHW, 2010). Some of the determinants of health, basically, are some factors that an ordinary citizen of Australia may not be able to control: for example, the political and economic situations of the country, the environment, and the social attitude.
However, the main determinants of health that could be modified personally are personal behaviours and individual characteristics. How do Australians control their lifestyles? What kinds of diet do they eat? Do they live healthily? How about going to the medical experts for regular pieces of advice? All these issues definitely determine the level or condition of health of the individuals. The game I designed above called “ Get Stronger Game” is a vital tool of health promotion for people suffering from diabetes mellitus 2. It does not matter what the condition of the diabetes patients could be, it works for all categories of people affected by diabetes mellitus. What the patients could gain from the game are many: they could learn about how to take good care of themselves; they could learn about diagnosis, treatment and health management; and they could understand the appropriate health professionals to go to for help.
There is no time limit for the application of this game. Diabetes sufferers can use the game at any time to learn more about their health status. Why it is important for diabetics to use this game is that they are likely going to learn many things about the health status in an interesting way, and enjoying following the useful tips provided by the game.
The community nurse, as well as doctors and other health professionals, can use this game to teach the diabetics the danger of living an unhealthy life which could affect their quality of life. This is an important step in the sense that this broad knowledge about diabetes mellitus 2 simply described in a fun game may help the Australian Government to save a lot of resources that would have been spent on capital-intensive health promotion programs that may or may not achieve the same purpose as the simple game.
