This paper discusses team-building activities for a healthcare organization. In a health care organization, an effective team can have a direct and encouraging impact on patient safety and health. In the past few years, the significance of effective team building in health care has grown to a massive extent because of certain aspects involved in the healthcare sector for instance: growing co-morbidities, the growing complication and specialization of care, chronic disease, safe working hours initiatives, and international workforce shortages (WHO, 2013).
So it is clear from the discussion that an effective team-building process is necessary in order to create an effective team for a healthcare organization. In a healthcare organization, effective team-building exercises can help build high-quality communications and interactions between health care providers and patients, at the same time as also improving working associations among team members. However, the general outcomes comprise effective communication and motivated human resources, which ultimately lead to more contented and safer patients and associates. Some of these activities are outlined below: (Berg, 2013) Icebreaker is one of the most useful team-building activities in which different groups are formed and each group has three or four people.
After that, each group member is provided with four 3-by-5 pieces of paper and a pencil. Each group member has to write his name on one of the papers. Each group member is asked to write three words that best describe his nature, likes, or dislikes by writing one word per piece of paper. After that, all these papers are collected and mixed. Now the team members are replaced with the other team members.
And this process is repeated in the same fashion. In addition, each team analyzes the answers of each team member. The basic purpose here is to identify how many matches are accurate. In this scenario, the team with the most accurate matches is declared as a winning team. The basic purpose of this activity is to allow team members to learn about each other and develop and maintain team unity (Berg, 2013). The second team-building exercise that this paper discusses is known as project planning, which is aimed at increasing care to organization and scheduling.
This exercise can be performed with any size group. This exercise starts by classifying the team into pairs. In this scenario, the basic purpose is to develop a simple plan for conducting a staff festivity. To do this, initiate by introducing team members with tools and techniques that they would need to plan this project. Some of these techniques can include: gathering and identifying all elements, brainstorming preliminary ideas, meeting deadlines, discovering issues, determining solutions, and sharing solutions with others. Additionally, make sure that each pair goes through each step of this exercise.
In this scenario, it is essential for them to record their results for each item as they talk about them. When they have done the job, compare the results of all pairs to see what they have recorded. After that, an individual is assigned to develop the final plan for planning this party (Berg, 2013).
