"The Experience of Younger Adults Following Myocardial Infarction" is a wonderful example of a paper on medical ethics. There are many occurrences in research where it is considered appropriate to incorporate either quantitative or qualitative research designs. This paper provides a summary of the content and the qualitative research design used in a specific article. This paper focuses on an article titled 'The Experience of Younger Adults Following Myocardial Infarction'. The content of this paper also evaluates the appropriateness of the design and further explains how ethical issues in the study were addressed.
An analysis of how the study would have been different if a quantitative design had been used is also elucidated in this paper. Summary of the content The individuals used in this research study were initially residents of county hospital coronary units in the southeastern part of Sweden. The candidates are released from the hospital between four and five days following a Myocardial Infarction. The candidates and their family members were offered advice by health practitioners on how to manage or deal with this disease condition. The advice offered was either in print form or was given by the word of mouth.
The research candidates were also given appropriate exercise courses as well as other education courses geared towards elevating their familiarity and comprehension of Myocardial Infarction. The y are also motivated and offered options of how they can alter their ways of living (Anderson, Borglin and Willman, 2013). The qualitative research design used and appropriateness of the design The qualitative research design used in this research article is referred to as hermeneutics. This technique was incorporated in the research or study to construe the content of the question or methods of consultation used.
This method laid a lot of emphasis on the comprehensible and logical connotation or significance of the occurrence. It is of importance to posit that all information collected in this study was done orally in form of accounts or interrogations. The use of Hermeneutics is appropriate in this study as the data collection techniques used are considered suitable for divulging the connotation or importance of an occurrence (Anderson, Borglin, and Willman, 2013). Ethical concerns It is of significance for researchers to ensure ethical or moral considerations when conducting research.
In this research study, the researchers ensured that they received informed consent from the candidates of the research. In addition, the researchers guaranteed confidentiality of the candidate's or subjects' medical and other personal information. The subjects were offered the chance to leave or extract themselves from the study anytime they wish devoid of any elucidations as to why they opted to leave. The researchers ensured the availability of a counselor in case therapy is needed (Anderson, Borglin, and Willman, 2013). How the study could have been different if a quantitative design had been used According to Bauman (2010), there are a lot of differences between quantitative and qualitative research designs.
In a quantitative design, figures or statistics are used. Therefore, if a quantitative design was used in this study, it would have been easier to identify and deduce the number of variables used unlike in qualitative research designs. Researchers have in the past argued that the use of elevated numbers of variables in a study increases the legitimacy as well as dependability of a study.
This shows that the results of the study could have been more reliable and dependable if a quantitative research design was used (Mauk, 2013). In a nutshell, the incorporation or integration of hermeneutics as a research design was justified in this research study.
