This project will help to diagnose respiratory diseases comprising of bronchitis, pneumonia, wheezing, and asthma, among others. Besides, this facility will attend to the children suffering from apnea that is a condition that makes the children forget or stop breathing. Also, an inherited condition known as Cystic fibrosis that causes mucus to build up in the lungs will be treated, and technology-dependent infants will also be attended to.

Also, immunizations will be provided to the infants so as to prevent them from developing respiratory infections. Also, campaigns to ensure that  impurities are not released to the environment will be carried out. Finally, services like flexible fiberoptic bronchoscopy (FFB) and pulmonary function testing will be provided by the clinic. FFB is a service that allows an inside examination of the lungs using a fiberoptic scope (Rubin & Bush, 2007). The target population The proposed project of the pediatric pulmonary clinic is to provide services to the children within the United States population.

The children are the main target stream of this project. This is because at birth the lungs are not fully developed in pediatrics, their airways are still narrow, they tend to breathe in a greater proportion of air than adults, and their low heights make them more exposed to pollutants that are heavier than air. Therefore, this makes them more vulnerable to respiratory problems. According to Chernick & Mellins, (2004), acute respiratory contaminations are among the top 10 causes of death in the United States and are accountable for 56,000 deaths per annum.

Although the mortality rate of pneumonia among the children fell by 97%, the infectious diseases of the respiratory system are on the rise and are the main reasons for pediatric hospitalization in the United States. Averagely, respiratory tract infections lead to 36,000 deaths and 200, 000 hospitalizations annually. For instance, the H1N1 influenza pandemic in the year 2009 caused about 12, 270 deaths with 1,270 being children below 18 years of age from April 2009 to March 2010 (Thompson et al. , 2003).

This is a high number since the overall population of infants in the United States is not high. The benefits of the project. This program will help to reduce the number of hospitalization and mortality rate due to respiratory complications among the children. This will be attained through the services like the flexible fiberoptic bronchoscopy (FFB) and pulmonary function testing that will be provided by the clinic to detect a respiratory problem earlier before it turns out to be chronic.

Besides, the immunization programs that the clinic will provide through giving of vaccines will aid to minimize the occurrence of respiratory diseases. Vaccines provide protection against microorganisms that cause a disease and, therefore, the immune system of the children will be prepared to prevent or fight any respiratory infection. Additionally, the campaigns by the clinic will assist to minimize the release of impurities into the environment, and this will provide a safer environment for the development of the infants.
